On October 7th, Gazan resident Plestia Alaqad's indifference to her Instagram feed shifted dramatically as news of Hamas's attack in southern Israel flooded her phone.

Contemplating Israel's potential response and her own course of action, Plestia, who had recently obtained a degree in new media and journalism from Cyprus, found herself faced with a pivotal decision.
Scheduled to commence a job as a content creator for a Palestinian nongovernmental organization on October 8th, her plans took an unexpected turn.

Instead of starting her new role,

Plestia embarked on a journey through the streets of Gaza, documenting her observations through videos and photos shared on Instagram and TikTok. In an instant, Plestia became one of the few youthful journalists capturing the monumental events unfolding before the world's eyes.
