What does it mean to be a human ? To stand up for human rights? Proclaim our connection to the “human” thread that connects us all. To feel empathy towards the suffering of others, to unite under the only definition that transcends our mental construction of nationalism, religion or social status.

Palestinians have been denied agency, as humans and as individuals. And, with the loss of agency, whatever aspirations for justice and self-determination they have — the basics we take for granted — became meaningless. 

In present, we have seen the horrid dehumanizing of Palestinians in the media, by politicians and on public display by the Israeli Occupation Forces. This is on the tail of 75 years of oppression , humiliation and dehumanization by Israeli politicians, settlers and many in Israeli society. This has enabled them to be ruthless in their military campaign while the world watches.

The term "dehumanization" is fitting as it encompasses not only acts such as murder, massacre, torture, blockade, dispossession, and humiliation but goes beyond to encompass the denial of the humanity of the victims and their cultures. This denial extends to efforts to erase them from historical records and collective memory.

We have a duty as human beings to stand against injustice and oppression of fellow human beings. We have a duty to demand equal human rights and justice for the Palestinians.
